Mars Scoreboards
Active
Description
To safeguard Mars crewed and robotic missions, the Community Coordinated Modeling Center (CCMC) is developing capabilities to model, predict, and display space weather at Mars. We will develop a new Mars Solar Irradiance scoreboard and continue the development of the Mars Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) and Solar Energetic Particle (SEP) Scoreboards. We will enable both real-time forecasts and science hindcast simulations of the Mars environment using the Mars-BATSRUS (magnetosphere and ionosphere, M/I) and the Mars-GITM (thermosphere and atmosphere, T/A) models. This will be the first major step towards building real-time space weather situational awareness at Mars.
Benefits
New Mars Solar Irradiance Scoreboard; continued Mars CME and SEP Scoreboards development; real-time forecasts and science hindcast simulations of the Mars environment; first major step toward real-time space weather situational awareness at Mars.

How to get involved
This is a mature technology (TRL 7+) — the realistic path in is usually NASA's Technology Transfer Program: licensing an existing NASA patent, or a Space Act Agreement to use NASA facilities/expertise directly. NASA also runs a startup licensing program with no upfront fee for companies formed to commercialize a specific NASA technology.
None of these are guaranteed paths for this specific project — TechPort itself doesn't have an "apply" button. Reaching out to the contact(s) above with a specific question is usually the fastest way to find out what's actually open.
