High-Thrust High-DeltaV Green Propulsion for CubeSats

Description

Aerojet Rocketdyne sought to develop a CubeSat High-Impulse Adaptable Modular Propulsion System, an additively manufactured propulsion unit that utilizes a non-toxic green propellant, hydroxyl-ammonium-nitrate ion liquid blend, to provide improved delta-V capability when compared to current state of the art cold gas and hydrazine systems. The effort was terminated upon programmatic and technical issues.

Benefits

The MPS-130 is intended to provide the thrust needed for constellation deployment, orbital maintenance, and station keeping while using a non-toxic propellant. Green propellant allows for greater safety through lower toxicity during all stages of spacecraft integration and flight, and provides greater flexibility through risk reduction to CubeSat missions for inclusion on a wider variety of launches and ride shares.
