Completed TRL 5 (started at 3, targeting 6)
The Fan and High-Lift Noise challenges reduce fan (lateral and flyover) and high-lift system (approach) noise on a component basis by 4 dB with minimal impact on weight and performance.
The technical challenge develops aero-structural-acoustic technology concepts to enable reduced airframe and propulsion noise with minimal impact on aircraft weight and performance in order to reduce the overall level of perceived community noise. Aircraft noise needs to be reduced to improve the quality of life of those living and working near airports, and to increase the productivity of airports on a 24/7 basis. Additionally, noise regulations will continue to become even more stringent in the future.

This is early/mid-stage (TRL 5) — the most realistic path in is NASA SBIR/STTR, which funds small businesses and research institutions to develop technology aligned with NASA's needs (equity-free, phased funding). Check whether a current SBIR/STTR solicitation topic overlaps with this project's technology area, or contact the project directly (above) to ask.
None of these are guaranteed paths for this specific project — TechPort itself doesn't have an "apply" button. Reaching out to the contact(s) above with a specific question is usually the fastest way to find out what's actually open.
