The objective of this project is to improve the design of pointing control systems for large space missions by modeling fast steering mirrors and developing an optimal control algorithm using MIMO control techniques. This control algorithm would have the potential to improve the wavefront performance necessary to achieve the starlight suppression and the stability of the coronagraph contrast while rejecting wavefront dynamic disturbances which are often hard to model.
