Using TRN/Hazard Imaging Lidar for Applied Science on Future Missions (Moon, Europa, Mars)

Description

This project seeks to investigate and demonstrate the fusion of LIDAR range imaging and Terrain Relative Navigation (TRN) imaging data and test this concept using data from several sources (including flight data) to produce a unique data type that enables new local-scale science and mission conops optimization by improving navigation accuracy at multiple scales (cm to meters).

Benefits

This technology will be useful for missions to new landing sites on the Moon (South Pole, for example ) Mars, Europa, and other small bodies and could benefit upcoming missions. This work applies directly to NASA's return to the Moon, as well as other missions to lunar and small bodies that require TRN.
