Development of a Broad Spectrum X-Ray Attenuator

Description

In this project, we seek to develop a broad-spectrum x-ray attenuator that can be used with pixellated x-ray detectors. The goal is to develop a techique for reducing the overall x-ray uniformly across the spectral range from 3 to 60 keV.

Benefits

The broadband attenuator will be particularly useful for solar x-ray observations where fluxes can vary by several orders of magnitude depending on solar activity. Use of an attenuator would allow a mission to limit its flux so as not to overwhelm a detector while still enabling the mission to get broad measurements of the entire spectrum.
