Quantum noise limited heterodyne detector for imaging spectroscopy of protoplanets at l ~ 1

Description

MgB2 HEB with a bandwidth of 6 GHz is a long sought detector for frequency comb spectroscopy of spatially resolved planetary discs, protoplanets or even exoplanets. This work will address the optical efficiency of the HEB device which will be coupled to 10-\xb5m radiation via a resonant optical cavity.

Benefits

Will enable ground breaking high-angular resolution imaging on multi-km baselines which will enable imaging exoplane disks.
