Intrinsic feedback to stabilize temperature is implemented in many superconducting devices. When detectors measure a thermal signal, thermal fluctuations can be a large noise source including 1/f noise. We plan to exploit the stable temperature platform created by superconductors biased in the transition with negative electrothermal feedback to improve the performance of detector focal planes at low signal frequency. Modeling, fabrication and testing will begin with single pixel devices and then expand to larger numbers of devices with a single stable temperature platform.
The goal of this activity is to demonstrate the reduction of 1/f noise in detector focal planes, an outcome of potential benefit to future focal planes for astrophysics including the Origins Space Telescope (OST)
