High speed telemetry (40Mbps) four times faster than currently available rates has been tested at Wallops for sounding rockets and is now available for new missions. For these higher telemetry rates to be utilized by GSFC experiments, appropriate interfaces are needed as well as upgraded ground-support equipment (GSE). Accordingly, this project develops the telemetry interface including a test board and GSE to facilitate use of the 40Mbps system in experiments.
The higher telemetry rates open the door to a host of new science and future new experiments, including high resolution astrophysics and solar imaging, high speed auroral imaging, Very High Frequency (VHF) waves associated with lightning, a new generation of ionospheric sounders, fast particle detectors, High Frequency (HF) wave interferometry, etc.
